Danny Kalic and the Wildcats' defense kept the ball in the Twinsburg end all night.

The Saint Ignatius Wildcats defeated the Twinsburg Tigers, 6-0, on Tuesday night on Wasmer Field.

The Cats showed that they are ready for the season by scoring many goals, particularly in the second half. Kory Nekoloff and Everett Shorey showed up in force with two goals a piece.

Nekeloff started the game off with a header goal at the 24th minute mark, assisted by Henry Curtis. The senior captain and forward beat his defender down the sideline and booted a perfect pass to Nekeloff.

A lightning delay at 18:27 put a halt to play for a half hour, before play resumed at about 8:15. The remainder of the first half passed without incident and with the Wildcats still in the lead, 1-0.

Shorey scored the second goal of the game, on an assist by Matt McLaughlin following a Theo Kudlo cross. Shorey then tabbed his second tally of the night about six minutes later.

Nekeloff’s final goal came next, on a cheeky behind-the-back goal that was a beauty to watch.

“It came out to Austin at the top of the box and he played it back to Everett,” said Nekeloff. “Everett swung it in low and hard, and I was able to get a flick on it, to nutmeg the guy back post.”

Josip Katic also got on the board. The junior had a beautiful goal that curved into the upper left corner from about the top of the goalie box. Katic’s goal drew big cheers from the Saint Ignatius.

Ryan Roberts then scored with literally one second on the clock to end the game for the Wildcats at 6-0.

The Wildcats’ defense, which includes Nolan Bartelone, Austin Zeleznik, Danny Kalic, and Theo Kudlo, played exceptionally well. GoalkeeperPeter Van Euwen emerged with another clean sheet.

The Soccer Cats improve to 2-0 on the season and hope to stay undefeated after this weekend. The Cats’ next game will be on Saturday at the Jesuit Cup at Toledo St. John’s Jesuit.

The JV A squad tied the Tigers, 1-1, on Tuesday, so they will be looking to bounce back this weekend at the Jesuit Cup.
