JV Gold Holds its Own Against Varsity Teams at Inverness

A Monday at work or in class? Tough sledding.

A Monday on the golf course? Not so bad. 

That's where the Saint Ignatius JV Gold golf team spent its Monday. The Wildcats competed in the St. John's Invitational in Toledo on Monday, facing off against 20 other teams, most varsity squads.

Against some tough competition on a tough course at Inverness Country Club, the Wildcats placed 16th with a score of 336. 

Inverness, founded in 1903, is a beautiful club located in Toledo. The storied course, the host of four U.S. Yesterday, the JV Gold team played in the St. John's Invitational at Inverness Country Club.  This storied course, host of four U.S. Opens and two PGA Championships, was a good test for the young Wildcats.

Connor Warns recorded the Golf Cats' low score on Monday. The junior tallied an impressive score of 79 on a tough course. 

Sophomore Matt Giberti and junior Jess Saunders both shot an 85 for the Cats. Junior Zach Hazard carded an 87 and freshman MJ Myers penciled in a 90 on his card at the end of the day. 

Dublin Jerome, the defending state champs, won the tournament with a score of 298. Olentangy Liberty, (305), St. Xavier (306), Archbishop Moeller (310), and Centerville (313) rounded out the top five. 

The JV Gold squad is in action again this weekend. The men of Tom Beach will take part in the University School Invitational at Windmill Lakes on Saturday and at the Gilmour Invitational at Fowler's Mill on Sunday.
