The JV squads also started out the season on positive notes.

With school starting in just over a week, the Saint Ignatius golf team enjoyed one of those summer days you wish you could clone and save for a wintry day in December.

Despite a little heat, the varsity golf squad won the CVCA Tournament at Silver Lake to start the 2018 season.

Sophomore Nick Longano led the way for a youthful Wildcats squad. Longano earned the honor of medalist with a score of 73. Freshman Topher Reed followed closely behind with a score of 77 to finish in fourth.

Full scores from head coach Brian Becker '77 will be along soon.

Meanwhile, the JV Gold team, under the direction of coach Tom Beach, hit the links for its first outing of the season at Brentwood Golf Course in Grafton. The Wildcats won the tournament, hosted by Elyria Catholic, with a team score of 296 to best the other 14 squads in attendance.

On the par 70 course, Zach Hazard shot a 34/37 for a 71, finishing as the second place medalist. Jess Saunders (37/40) and Matt Giberti (38/39) each tallied a 77, while freshman MJ Myers rounded out the pack with an 81.

The Wildcats' varsity and JV Gold teams will host the Saint Ignatius Invitational on Tuesday at Red Tail, with a shotgun start of 8:30 am, weather permitting. Stay tuned to Twitter for updates.

The JV Blue team participated in its first outing on Monday, too, heading to a tournament at Hudson Country Club. Hudson High School served as hosts. The Wildcats stole the show with a first-place finish of 334 to beat the other 16 teams.

On the par 72 course, freshman J.R. Leedy grabbed the medalist honors with a score of 77. Ian Shemo finished second among his classmates with a score of 83. Sean White penciled in an 86 at the end of the day, while Michael Van Etten (88) and Liam Doyle (89) rounded out the Cats on Monday.

The men of Tom Bogen return to the course on Wednesday to play in the Strongsville Classic at Bunker Hill.
