Lax Cats Gallop to Win on Tuesday; Next Up – Regional Quarterfinal on Friday

Patrick Koehler scored a hat trick for the Wildcats.

In a dominant showing on Tuesday evening, the Saint Ignatius prep lacrosse team earned a 23-0 win over the Willoughby South Rebels.

The 12-7 Wildcats erupted for 11 goals in the first half and never looked back in the Division I, Region 2, Regional Qualifier. 

All in all, 12 different Saint Ignatius players scored in the victory. Michael Boehm, Patrick Koehler, Griff Gerard, KJ Ripich, and Kyle Katigbak all notched hat tricks, with Katigbak leading all scorers with 4 goals. 

The Wildcats fired out of the gate, not taking anything lightly. Nate Conry, Boehm (3), Katigbak, Noah Catanzarite, Merick Hartley, Ian Flynn, Patrick Koehler, and Gerard (2) did the honors for the Lax Cats in the first with 11 total goals.

Katigbak scored his second and third goals to start the second, while Gerard found twine for his hat trick midway through the period. Koehler finished off the scoring in the first half with his second and third goals of the contest for a hat trick. The Cats took a 16-0 lead into the break.

South kept up the fight, but the Wildcats stayed strong. KJ Ripich (2), Charlie Kinzel, and Bill Beegan all found the back of the net in the third. Liam Nigro, Katigbak, and Ripich completed the scoring in the fourth, setting the margin at 23-0. 

The Wildcats will return to action on Friday. The squad will host the Green Bulldogs on Wasmer Field at 7 pm. The SIBN will have live coverage, audio-only per OHSAA rules.
