A lightning delay and rain caused the 2018 Berea Kiwanis Titans Relays to run late, but the Saint Ignatius varsity track & field team braved the conditions to tie for first place with Medina. Each team tabbed 72 points.

The result represent a large leap for the Wildcats. The men of Chuck Kyle '69 have dealt with schedule conflicts, injuries, and bad weather. But now, everything is starting to come together for the Wildcats.

An all-around effort for the Wildcats despite the sloppy conditions bodes well for the squad down the road.

The Wildcats' relay teams accrued plenty of highlights throughout the day. But perhaps the most exciting one of the day came in the 4x100 relay. Jack Kennedy, Connor Kennedy, Phil Zuccaro, and Dominic Devengencie snatched first and the accompanying 10 points. The foursome clocked in at 42.71, beating Medina's squad by just .05 seconds. These two points allowed the Cats to tie for first, instead of placing second.

The 4x400 relay team of Luke Griffiths, Kyle Hall, John Wetula, and Zuccaro rolled to six points. The four Cats combined for a third place time of 3:29.10 and six points for the blue and gold.

Andrew Biehl, Liam McGuire, Matt Blouch, and Brett Saunders combined for a nice second place finish in the 4x1600. The time of 18:20.20 earned the squad a much-welcomed eight points.

Blouch and McGuire teamed with Cormac Nolan and Joe Ripepi in the distance medley relay, with satisfying results. The quartet fought for a time of 10:57.64, notching third place and six points.

The 800 sprint medley relay resulted in some points for the Wildcats, too. Connor and Jack Kennedy, Zuccaro, and Hall snatched fourth in a remarkably close race. Clocking in at 1:35.40, the Cats took fourth, just one second off first place.

Individually, Nick Saul orchestrated five points in the 3200m run. The junior tabbed a time of 9:48.90, enough for fourth place in the stacked event.

The Wildcats performed well in the field events, headlined by Darian Kinnard.

Kinnard returned to the ring for the Wildcats on Friday, adding some crucial points. The strong senior captured first in the shot put with a toss of 59-11.00. His incredible throw broke a Berea meet record set in 1969 by a Westlake student. Kinnard also hefted a throw of 164-01 in the discus, good enough for third place on a banner day.

Tommy Eichenberg followed Kinnard's lead, finishing in sixth with a throw of 48-06.00. Alex Miscensik also repped the Cats in both events.

Andrew Eicher notched a couple points in the high jump with a leap of (6-00.00) and Nate Sommerfeld did the same, tying for seventh at 5-09.00.

Next up for the Wildcats are the Euclid Relays next weekend.
