Today's match vs. Hudson has been postponed.

That didn't last long.

The Saint Ignatius varsity tennis team did not allow its losing streak to extend beyond one match, quickly getting back on track with a win on Monday.

The Tennis Cats gutted out a 4-1 victory over Mayfield at Magnificat High School on Monday, braving the cold and wind in a great effort.

Mother Nature did put the kibosh on Tuesday's match, however. The Wildcats will face the Hudson Explorers on May 7.

On Monday, for the first time of the season, the Wildcats lost the No. 1 singles match. The incredible winning streak of outstanding sophomore Arjun Brahmbhatt came to an end, as Mayfield's Yukun Wong earned 6-1, 6-1 wins.

Brian Zhu and Nate Day shouldered the load at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, however, thwarting any efforts by Mayfield to upset the Cats in singles play. Zhu captured a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 and Day returned to the No. 3 single spot with a 6-0, 6-1 domination.

The Wildcats rolled through doubles play, too. Jack McNally paired with Drew Barclay for the first time this year at No. 1 singles. The duo rolled through Mayfield's top doubles team, 6-1, 6-1.

The typical duo of Jack Showman and Thomas Deucher reunited at the No. 2 doubles spot and quickly earned a double bagel, 6-0, 6-0 win over their foes from Mayfield.

With the win, the Wildcats advance to 10-1 overall on the season.

Next up for head coach Bobbe Bennett's squad is a rivalry matchup with St. Edward on Wednesday at 4:30 pm at Magnificat High School. Weather-permitting, the Wildcats will head to Brecksville-Broadview Heights on Thursday and Kenston on Friday.
