Joey Morford won 21-of-25 faceoffs and notched 12 groundballs vs. WRA

“What did I just watch!?” one student in the stands said at the end of the game. This quote really was the synopsis of this game.

The Saint Ignatius prep lacrosse team absolutely obliterated Western Reserve Academy 21-2, even without Ohio State commit and senior Anthony Ameo on Wednesday night on Wasmer Field.

Now, let me get this straight, Western Reserve was playing pretty good in this game, but in each possession, the Wildcats ended up scoring. The visitors had great team play, sportsmanship, and coaching, but the Wildcats ended up on top by a large margin.

In the first quarter, the Cats scored seven times while Western Reserve scored once. By the end of the quarter, the momentum was with the Cats. The seven goals were scored by Merick Hartley, Max Maruna, Noah Catanzarite, Jack Moriarty, Joey Morford,  Bain Kurtz, and of course, senior Chris Larsen.

The second quarter was also insanely explosive for the Cats. The Lax Cats found twine six times while WRA only notched one goal. In this quarter, fans witnessed great passing and ability to move the ball efficiently. The six goals were scored by Nathan Conry (twice!), Charlie Klenkar, Kyle Katigbak, Griff Gerard, and last but not least, Greg Langermeier.

In the second half, the LaxCats remained on the attack, tallying eight consecutive goals while the visitors did not hit the scoreboard. These eight goals were scored by Conry, Maruna, Charlie Kinzel, Hartley, Moriarty, Katigbak, Larsen, and Ian Flynn.

Mincer’s MVPs: Nathan Conry and Max Maruna

Absolutely crazy game, boys!

Next up for the Lax Cats is a rivalry matchup at St. Edward on Saturday at 5 pm. Go support the Cats!
