Tennis Cats Roll Through 1st Round of the OTCA Tournament

For the third time this week, the Saint Ignatius varsity tennis team swept away the competition.

The Wildcats advanced to the second round of the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association (OTCA) Tournament with a 5-0 victory over the Howland Tigers on Saturday at Cleveland State University.

The Tennis Cats remain undefeated at 6-0, without a loss in any singles or doubles match. 

Arjun Brahmbhatt locked up a win for the Cats at the No. 1 singles spot. The sophomore corraled a 6-1, 6-1 win over Michael Awadalla. Brian Zhu accomplished a "double bagel," rolling past his foe with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Drew Barclay did the same for his third win of the year, capturing a 6-0, 6-0 win as well.

Richie Hofstra and Jack McNally continued their success tour on Saturday at the No. 1 doubles spot. The duo romped to a 6-3, 6-1 victory for the Wildcats. Jack Showman and Thomas Deucher followed suit, 6-1, 6-3. 

The Wildcats will return to the court on Monday, weather-permitting. A home match with Shaker Heights is planned for Monday at 4:30 pm at Magnificat High School.
