The Saint Ignatius prep lacrosse team won on Wednesday evening at Wasmer Field in a very explosive spark of emotion through the whole game.

After losing last Saturday to the Upper Arlington Golden Bears, 8-7, in a very nerve-racking game, the Wildcats came back and absolutely obliterated the Hoover Vikings by a score of 16-4.

The Wildcats started with explosive tempo by scoring 8 goals in the first period against one by the Vikings. Three came by junior Jack Moriarty, two by benior Anthony Ameo, one by senior Bain Kurtz, sophomore Michael Boehm, and senior Chris Larsen. In the first period, the Wildcats scored six consecutive goals in just four minutes.

In the second period, the Lax Cats scored six goals while Hoover, again, scored only one. In this period, the Cats used immense skill with passing and ball movement. With acrobatic catches and passes, it was almost like watching the Harlem Globetrotters on a lacrosse field.

The third period was a lot different and not as exciting, as the defense was great on both sides of the ball. However, the Hoover Vikings did get in a goal early in the quarter.

In the fourth period, the Cats still played their hearts out even after being almost certain of walking out of the game with a win. As the fourth quarter went on, the Wildcats scored two goals and the Vikings notched one.

This game was tremendous for many players, including Moriarty, who scored a game-best four goals. Boehm tallied a hat trick with three, Ameo added two, Ian Flynn tabbed with two, and many more players had single goals.

This game, in this writer’s opinion, really showed fans who the Cats really are. The team gave its all for four periods in the beginning of the season.

Next up for the team is a trip to Southern California for a 3-game swing against 3 big teams – Coronado, Torrey Pines, and Loyola (LA).

Great job Cats, keep it up!
