The Wildcats' 3rd straight win cam at the expense of the Lake Blue Streaks.

The first week of the Bobbe Bennett era went swimmingly for the Saint Ignatius varsity tennis team. And no, that's not an allusion to the deluge of water in Northeast Ohio this week.

The Wildcats defeated Uniontown Lake on Thursday afternoon at North Ridgeville Tennis & Golf Center, claiming the third win this week to start the season.

The Tennis Cats take a clean 3-0 record into Easter break, having only lost one set in three matches.

Head Tennis Coach Bobbe Bennett is certainly pleased with the efforts of her squad through week one.

“We are off to a great start," said Bennett. "I am really proud of the boys for how they have competed. They have worked hard together as a team. We are looking forward to our continued growth as a team and for all of our hard work to pay off.”

Arjun Brahmbhatt led things off on Thursday for the Cats in the No. 1 singles spot. In the most competitive matchup of the day, the sophomore dueled Lake's Dawson Drummond. Brahmbhatt battled for a 6-4, 6-3 victory, staying undefeated on the season.

Brian Zhu continued to thrive in the No. 2 spot. Today, the senior did not cede his foe even one point, winning 6-0, 6-0. Zhu is off to a great start this year.

Nate Day, the Wildcats' youthful star, followed Zhu's lead with a clean sweep. Day earned a 6-0, 6-0 win to complete a great start to his Saint Ignatius tennis career.

The Tennis Cats' doubles teams performed just as well. Richie Hofstra and Thomas Deucher worked together for the first time this year, and didn't miss a beat. The senior-sophomore combo won every point, 6-0, 6-0.

Jack Showman paired with Drew Barclay today, and that duo played well, too. Showman set his win total at three, while Barclay notched a victory in his first action of the year. Showman and Barclay combined to win their match, 6-0, 6-1.

After a chance to rest for Easter, the Tennis Cats will return to the court late next week. Copley will come play the Wildcats at Magnificat High School next Thursday at 4:30 pm.
