One of the premier kickers in Northeast Ohio has another badge of honor to add to his resume.
Saint Ignatius kicker and punter Matthew Trickett is the Student-Athlete of the Week after a special game against Elder.
The senior enjoyed an all-around great game on the road at "The Pit." Trickett excelled in all facets of special teams – field goals, extra points, kickoffs, and punting.
Trickett converted field goals of 40, 45, and 55 yards on Saturday. His 55-yarder tied a school record previously set by Tim Shenk in 2011. Trickett added to his point total with three extra points. On the season, Trickett has a team-high 44 points, including 9 field goals for a total of 354 yards.
Kickoffs proved to be a field day for Trickett, who slotted 5-of-6 kickoffs into the end zone in Cincinnati. Punting did not provide a challenge, either, as Trickett averaged 47 yards on three punts.
The graduate of Incarnate Word Academy has given the Wildcats a huge special teams advantage this season, which could be the X-factor for the team moving forward.
Trickett and the Wildcats return to action on Saturday, hosting Clarkson Football North at Byers Field at 7 pm. Tickets are available here.
