Varsity Golf Cats Notch Solid Finish at Lakewood CC

In other action, the JV Blue teams dropped a narrow match.

As October approaches, the Saint Ignatius varsity golf squad is preparing for the postseason.

The Wildcats took one more step with a third-place finish in an invitational at Lakewood Country Club this weekend.

The Varsity Golf Cats notched a team score of 316, bested only by Rocky River (304) and Archbishop Hoban (310). 

Michael McCaffrey topped the team with a 76 on the afternoon. Connor Warns also finished in the 70's with a score of 79. Ryan Grabowski came in just behind Warns with an 80.

Ross Williamson and Jake Moraca tabbed identical scores of 81 on the course. KJ Ripich carded an 84 to round out the squad. 

Avon Lake (317), University School (322), St. Edward (322), Gilmour Academy (323), Westlake (356), and the St. Edward B team (356) finished behind the Wildcats. 

The men of Brian Becker '77 will now take the week to prepare for the Beechmont Ryder Cup on Friday.

Meanwhile, the JV Blue dropped a narrow decision. The Wildcats fell on the road to Cathedral Prep, 326-332.

Traveling to Erie, Pennsylvania to Downing Golf Course, the Wildcats performed well on Saturday. Andrew Martin topped the team with an 81. Matthew Giberti came in just behind with an 82, while Ian Shemo tabbed an 83. William Doyle carded an 86 and Sean White scored an 88 to complete the squad's day. 

Following the close decision, the Wildcats have a chance to return to victory on Monday. The JV Blue Cats will face Walsh Jesuit on Monday at 4 p.m. at Brookledge Golf Course.
