Varsity Golf Cats Headed to Districts After Solid Day at Sectionals

The Varsity Golf Cats advance to OHSAA District play by finishing third during Monday's Sectional Tournament at Sweetbriar

Coach Becker: The Varsity Golf Team qualified for the District Tournament next week at the Pine Hills Golf Course with a third-place finish in Monday's Sectional on the Legacy Course at Sweetbriar Country Club in Avon Lake.

The Cats were led by Junior Michael McCaffrey, who fired a solid round of 73, good for a runner-up finish in the tournament.

Saint Ignatius' team total was 316, as Freshman Andrew Kaye also chipped in with a respectable round of 79.

The golf team also played in the Dublin Jerome tournament held at the Tartan Fields Country Club in Columbus over the weekend. The team used this tournament as a tune up for todays sectional round, as the always tough Tartan Fields Country Club sharpened the team's mental toughness.

Here are the Cats' individual scores from today's Sectional Tournament.

St. Ignatius: 3rd overall (316)

1. Michael McCaffrey 73
2. Andrew Kaye  79
3. Hunter Rinkus  81
4. Ross Williamson  83
5. Jake Moraca  83

From Mr. Eddie Dwyer: The top four individual scores at Sweetbriar on Monday were Brandon Bodis of Avon Lake with a round of 70, Michael McCaffrey of Saint Ignatius and Jules Blakely of Westlake with rounds of 73, and Wesley Neal of Westlake with a round of 74.

The top four team scores were Avon Lake with a 299, Westlake with a 309, Saint Ignatius at 316, and St. Edward at 317.

Next week's OHSAA District Tournament at Pine Hills is scheduled for Monday, October 10th.
