Cleveland, Ohio - On this gray and wet Monday afternoon, we thought we would pick up your spirits by letting you know that Saint Ignatius' Varsity Fall Sports Teams will keep your rooting interest thriving this coming weekend.

In all starts on Friday night at Wasmer Field when the state and nationally acclaimed Varsity Soccer Cats (8-0-1) take on traditional national power Junior Billikens of St. Louis University High. The action begins at 7 PM.

Coach Mike McLaughlin's Cats will enter Friday's encounter on a 45-match unbeaten streak.

Ohio's top-ranked Soccer Cats return to Wasmer Field on Saturday night at 7 to face the Celtics from Dublin Jerome.

Also on Saturday, as Head Coach Dr. Mike Gallagher '71 pointed out in Sunday's annual Gallagher Report, the defending state champion Cross Country Wildcats will be at Hilliard Bradley High School for the prestigious Midwest Meet of Champions.

Coach Gallagher reported the starting time as noon and the Varsity Wildcats are expected to leave school after eighth period on Friday.

Coach Brian Becker's Men of the Links, aka the Varsity Golf Team, will tune up for the OHSAA Postseason Tournament when they travel to the annual Dublin Jerome Invitational on Saturday at the Tartan Fields Country Club. The Wildcats' schedule shows the tee-off time as 1 PM.

Saturday night on Byers Field in Parma's Robert M. Boulton Stadium, the Varsity Football Wildcats (4-1) will continue their drive to a spot in the annual OHSAA postseason playoffs when they take on the 4-1 Parma Senior Redmen in a 7 PM kickoff. No, that is not a misprint. Parma Senior is off to a great start this season.

The corner will preview the Wildcats-Parma 2016 gridiron encounter on Tuesday night. Ah, the days when Parma and Saint Ignatius traditionally played one of the area's early season headliners. I didn't have gray hair in those days.

We'll see you Thursday evening on Wasmer Field for coverage of the Freshmen Football Team's 5:30 PM matchup with the Trojans from Erie McDowell, on the pitch at Wasmer Field Friday night and at Ridge Road and Day Drive on Saturday night, as some nice computer points await the Varsity Football Wildcats.

Have a great and safe week and weekend.
