Runners and parents,

A crisp morning greeted the runners as they boarded the bus to the Hilliard Hot Summer Bash Invitational.  Unfortunately, the Columbus temperature was nearing 80 degrees by race time for the Varsity.

The top mid-Ohio teams took the line with the 'Cats at the far end of starting shutes. As expected, Pickerington Central, Gahanna Lincoln, Centerville and Lakota East bolted from the gun in a sprint for the first turn. At the mile, C.J. Ambrosio, Lakota's Dustin Horter and Pickerington's Matt Scrape had opened up a 20-second gap on the field with a 4:45 split. The rest of the 'Cats stayed relaxed coming through in 5:05-5:10.

By 3200 meters Andrew Szendrey moved out of the pack with Nick Saul, Colin Caniglia and Collin Kelly following his lead. Boisterous spectators lined the course over the last half mile as the 'Cats continued to gain ground. C.J, held on to finish 3rd in 15:24, Andrew closed to finish 9th in 16:32, followed by Saul and Caniglia in 16:36 and 16:38, respectively.

Collin Kelly (16:50), Liam McGuire (16:55), and Andrew Biehl (17:04) rounded out the 'Cats' top 7 scorers. After a scoring mishap, the team scores were changed to give the Cat Pack a victory over Pickerington Central 57 to 69 points.

The sun came out in full force by the time the gun went off for the Open race,  but the 'Cats were ready for the heat. Pat Nolan and Will Maier went straight to the front and never let off the gas. Pat cut through the course like a hot knife through butter, extending his lead throughout the race and finishing in 16:47. Freshman Steve Zucca held back at the start but would not be denied, passing one runner after another to finish in 17:31. Gabe Ohliger followed close behind in 17:32, with Will Deucher--a huge PR  and letter time of 17:34-- and Will Maier (17:44) rounding out the top 5. Coming back from injury was Brett Saunders to earn his letter in 17:55, just in front of freshmen Andrew Mulhern in 17:57.
