Saint Ignatius' Josh Hsia is defeated by St. Xavier standout Andrew Niehaus, 6-3, 6-3, in the opening round of Friday's Singles Play at the 97th annual OHSAA Boys State Tennis Tournament.

By Mr. Eddie Dwyer

Josh, a junior, drew a strong and tournament savvy opponent in the Bombers' Andrew Niehaus.

A senior, Niehaus is making his fourth consecutive State Tournament appearance. He was the No. 1, Division I District Seed in Cincinnati and won another District singles championship. As a team, St. Xavier garnered a fifth-place state ranking in the annual Coaches' Poll.

Niehaus moves on to play Paul Gota of University School, who won his first match.

We want to congratulate Josh Hsia, Saint Ignatius Head Coach Jon Barker and Assistant Coach/Head Junior Varsity Coach Cindy Reagan on another outstanding season.

After capturing the Oberlin College Singles Sectional Championship and qualifying for the State Tournament as the 5th seed out of the Oberlin Division I District, Josh will return in 2017 for bigger and better things as the leader of the Tennis Cats.

Note: This year's State Tennis Tournament is being held at the Linder Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
