Anyone who follows the corner's football coverage realizes that I have tremendous respect for Joe Eitel and the job he does with his weekly high school football computer playoff ratings.

However, it is wise not get too excited over being one of SEVEN teams tied for fourth place in the initial Eitel Division I ratings for 2016.

As you probably know, Normandy is now on a 32-game losing streak and we can only hope, that unlike last season, the Invaders will give us some help this year in the all-important, second-level points. That means Normandy would have to win a game or two, or maybe three. We can only hope.

That said, the Eitel ratings will take on a more significant appearance after this coming weekend as Saint Ignatius (1-0) faces the Mentor Cardinals (1-0) this Saturday at 7 PM on Byers Field in Parma's Robert M. Boulton Stadium.

A huge game, my friends, not only because the Wildcats versus the Cardinals has developed into one of the finest Catholic School versus Public School football rivalries in the nation, but a significant amount of computer points are potentially on the table.

The first official OHSAA computer ratings for the season will be released on September 20th and the first Associated Press bragging rights state poll will be released on September 12th.

The top eight teams in each Division I region at the end of the regular season qualify for the OHSAA Playoffs.

Note: The corner will be previewing the Mentor-Saint Ignatius encounter on Wednesday night.
