Cleveland, Ohio - Lou has been named as a 2016 Brine National All-Star and will be playing at the National Brine Lacrosse Classic on a team comprised of boys from across the State of Ohio, July 19-22 in Richmond, Virginia.

"Lou was selected to represent a regional team and then advanced to Columbus, where he competed for a spot on the Ohio team," said Lou's mom, Anne Persiani. "He went to the tryouts thinking he would 'give it a shot,' never imagining he would end up making the team and advancing."

The Ohio team consists of boys from the Class of 2020 throughout the state, including another Wildcats incoming Freshman, Alex Brunkholz.

Attracting more than 2,000 high school and youth lacrosse players, the National Brine Lacrosse Classic includes speakers, drills, skills and game competition.

"Lou began playing lacrosse in the fourth grade and has always played Defense, although he occasionally plays Long Stick Middie (LSM)," said Anne Persiani. "He began playing for Westside Lacrosse and then switched to Avon Lake, when it began its own recreational program. This year his team was coached by Dan Hallagan."

Joining Lou on his Spring Avon Lake lacrosse team were incoming Saint Ignatius players Griff Gerard, Alex Bilardo, Cam Kurtz, Greg Langermeirer, Aidan Latchford, Gabe Duban, Andrew Kaye, Christopher Laska, Connor Francz, and KJ Ripich.

Lou competed for the Knights Travel Lacrosse program for the last several years, where he has been coached by Mike Worrall, Matt Advey, and recently Mike Cillo and Jimmy Wilhelm. Saint Ignatius Freshmen on the Knights Travel team included Aidan Latchford, Aidan Millet, Gabe Duban, Connor Francz, and Casey Dreiling.

In what will be a competitive summer for Lou, he will, said his mom, also be playing in a tournament for Burning River, and will compete on a team that will be at The Ohio State University for the Buckeye Battle Team Camp, which includes Saint Ignatius freshmen Michael Boehm, Blade Cintron, Connor Cmiel, Sam Daugstrup, Jack Welsch, Alex Bilardo, Charlie Kinzel, Greg Langermeirer, KJ Ripich, and Alex Bearducci.

Lou, who enjoys the fast-paced style of play, lists North Carolina and Syracuse as his favorite college teams.

NOTE: The Brine National Lacrosse Academy brings the top youth lacrosse players in the nation to one venue, where regional teams, coached by NCAA lacrosse coaches, compete to become the 2016 National Champion.

Lou Persiani and his Class of 2020 teammates are entering the Wildcats' Lacrosse Program at a very special time.

Head Coach Patrick McManamon's Lax Cats advanced to the Ohio High School Lacrosse Association State Championship Game for the first time this past spring and in the upcoming spring season of 2017, Lacrosse will become a sanctioned sport by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
