POSTED BY EDDIE DWYER ON 11/29/10 AT 6:37 P.M.
Congratulations go out to Saint Ignatius junior safety Mike Svetina for earning first-team honors on the 2010 Associated Press Division I All-Ohio high school football team.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Svetina was recognized for his outstanding fall, which saw him put up impressive numbers against a schedule that featured five OHSAA playoff qualifiers, including big-school state finalist St. Edward (14-0) and Division II state semifinalist Lake Catholic (12-2), and a game against defending national champion Don Bosco Prep (11-0) out of Ramsey, New Jersey.

In 10 games, Mike was in on 163 tackles, including an eye-popping 95 solos. He made nine stops behind the line of scrimmage, forced two fumbles, had two sacks, three quarterback hurries, two quarterback hits, blocked a kick and came up with three interceptions.

Earlier this month, Mike was also honored as a first-team selection on the All-Northeast Lakes District team. He was joined on the All-NE Lakes team by second-team picks Tyler Kette (senior linebacker) and Mike Ramos (senior offensive guard) and special mentions David Joseph (senior wideout/kick returner), Tim Shenk (junior kicker) and Jack Corrigan (senior center).

Again, congratulations to Mike, his family, Coach Chuck Kyle '69, Assistant Coach Bryan Massinen '98 and the entire Wildcats defensive staff.
