Playing in its first outdoor venue, Saint Ignatius' varsity hockey team completed a 4-0 weekend by defeating Gilmour Academy, 3-0, in Sunday's finals of the "Snow Days Tournament" at Progressive Field. On the 'Cats' 2011-12 schedule it's listed as the Gilmour Tournament, so take your pick.

Coach Pat O'Rourke's team improved to 9-0 overall on the strength of 19 saves by senior goalie Matt Kovesdy and lamp lighters by Taylor Wolf, Mike Abood and Liam Geither.

The Wildcats travel to Thornton Park on Dec. 9 to face a highly regarded Shaker Heights team at 9 p.m., and the corner will get its first look at the 2011-12 'Cats on Dec. 10, when they take on the Padua Bruins at 4:45 p.m. in Brooklyn's John M. Coyne Recreation Center.

On Dec. 15, Saint Ignatius will travel to Serpentini Arena at Winterhurst to face off with long-time rival St. Edward at 7:15 p.m. The Wildcats and the state runner-up Eagles split their two meetings last season, with St. Edward prevailing at Winterhurst, 2-1.

*Just a reminder that the corner will post its swimming and diving, wrestling and varsity basketball previews this coming week.

Hope you enjoyed your Saturday night at Fawcett Stadium. I know this corner did.
