****THE WILDCATS’ 2011-12 VARSITY BASKETBALL PREVIEW WILL BE POSTED ON MONDAY NIGHT, DEC. 12TH, AS COACH SEAN O’TOOLE’S TEAM GEARS UP FOR THE DEC. 17TH OPENER AGAINST DETROIT JESUIT IN SULLIVAN GYMNASIUM.

AND WE GIVE YOU ANOTHER REMINDER ON LAST MONTH’S TWO ALL-STAR POSTS REGARDING COACH MCLAUGHLIN AND MATT FOLDESY.

POSTED BY EDDIE DWYER

Saint Ignatius head baseball coach Brad Ganor told the corner this week that Toronto Blue Jays manager John Farrell recently donated two dozen Louisville Slugger wood bats to the Wildcats’ program. Wood bats come into play in OHSAA baseball this spring.

John’s sons, Jeremy, Shane and Luke, excelled in baseball for Saint Ignatius. As just a freshman, Jeremy was a mainstay on the Wildcats’ 2002 Division I state championship team.

John Farrell was a former pitcher for the Indians and did an outstanding job as the Director of Player Development for the Tribe.

****As part of our state-championship soccer coverage last month, we reported on the corner that Saint Ignatius head Coach Mike McLaughlin’85 and his standout senior forward/center Matt Foldesy have been selected to compete in the first annual High School All-American Game.

We would like to remind you that the game will take place this Saturday in Birmingham, Alabama. Action will get underway at 6 p.m. at West Campus Field on the campus of UAB. The players selected represented their high school teams during the fall season and are players that received top all-state recognition and in many cases All-American status.

Coach McLaughlin and Foldesy will be competing for the East Team. Matt, a University of Akron recruit, was recently selected as the Division I Player of the Year in Ohio.

Also taking place in Birmingham this weekend is the men’s NCAA College Cup.

- We'll see you Saturday at the John M. Coyne Recreation Center, A.K.A. "The Big Barn on Memphis," where the puck will drop at 4:45 p.m. for a Red Division hockey match up between the Wildcats and the Padua Bruins.

And don't forget that the Wildcats' varsity wrestling team will be competing in the prestigious Walsh Jesuit Ironman this weekend (see the corner's wrestling preview below).
