TIS THE WEEK AND WEEKEND IN WILDCATS ATHLETICS.

VARSITY HOCKEY AND WRESTLING GET THINGS STARTED ON THURSDAY NIGHT AND THE WILDCATS' VARSITY AND JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAMS OPEN THEIR SEASONS ON SATURDAY NIGHT IN SULLIVAN GYMNASIUM.

Saint Ignatius' student body can get in a "Christmas on Campus" mood Thursday night by supporting Coach Pat O'Rourke's varsity hockey team (11-0), as it travels to Serpentini Arena at Winterhurst to face 2011 state runner-up St. Edward. The 'Cats will be looking to end what has been a long skid at Winterhurst.The puck will drop at 7 p.m.

Thursday night will also feature the annual regular-season wrestling match against the Eagles at St. Edward. Coach Mark Sullivan will send his team to the mats at 7:30.

On Saturday, the Wildcats open their hoops season by taking on the experienced and talented Cubs from the University of Detriot Jesuit High School and Academy (see the corner's preview that was posted early Tuesday morning). The varsity game will follow a 6 p.m. JV tipoff.

Saint Ignatius' swimming and diving teams will be competing in the annual Viking Invitational at Cleveland State on Saturday and the "Alley 'Cats," a.k.a the varsity bowling team, are scheduled to match pins against Central Catholic on Saturday at Buckeye Lanes.
