Saint Ignatius’ outstanding senior diver and 2011 state qualifier Keith Carmichael recently put his name in the Wildcats’ record books by breaking one of the longest standing marks in the Jesuit Preparatory School’s rich athletic history.

In a tri-meet between Saint Ignatius, Toledo St. Francis and Akron Firestone held in St. Francis’ pool, Keith broke the 6 dive record.

As Wildcats assistant coach Kevin Carmichael pointed out, Keith was “on fire” at this meet, as he competed against three excellent divers from St. Francis and they were diving in a 10-foot deep pool, which make the entries more difficult because there is limited time to stop.

Keith nailed five out of the six dives, with the sixth dive being better than average. His lowest score from the three-judge panel was 7 and his highest was 8.5 out of a possible 10.

Keith’s score was 327.15 and the previous record, which was held by former Wildcat great Mike Svets, was 300.5. Mike set his mark during the season of 1986-1987.

Congratulations to Keith and his family.

In case you missed the report over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, Wildcats junior Derek Hren had himself a day at the Northeast Classic Swimming and Diving Invitational, as he set another new personal mark in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.73. Derek also won the 200 IM in 1:53.39 and was on the winning 400 free style relay team and the first-place 200 medley relay team.

Sophomore Nathan Christian brought home the 50 free style in 21.78.
