Saint Ignatius head baseball coach Brad Ganor said Tuesday that his senior pitcher and football quarterback Matt Hoyer has committed to Mercyhurst College for football. Mercyhurst is a Catholic Liberal Arts School located in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Coach Ganor said Matt met with the Lakers' football program and following an official visit was offered a presidential scholarship through the football program. Matt was a two-year varsity football letterman for the Wildcats and will begin his second season with the varsity baseball program in the spring.

Matt is a brother of former Saint Ignatius and Michigan State standout quarterback Brian Hoyer '04, who is currently preparing for the Super Bowl with the New England Patriots as the backup signal-caller to Tom Brady.

*On personal note, I ask that you keep my brother John, his wife Jean and their son Jason in your prayers, as their eldest son and brother, Jamie (James), passed away on Monday after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
