In response to those faithful readers of the corner who inquired, yes, the very popular JJ Huddle.com site, in its 2012 preseason Region 1 football overview, has labled St. Edward as the team to beat.

The JJ preview points to St. Edward's seasoned running game (Dwanye Aaron and Kenny Butler), the speed of JJ Huddle top 100 prospect Anthony Young at wide receiver, the passing and running of senior quarterback Ryan Fallon and a defensive secondary headed by 2011 All-Ohio selection Domenic Abounader and Iowa recruit Soloman Warfield.

Saint Ignatius and Mentor are also among JJ Huddle's headliners and Wildcats All-Ohio senior defensive end Kevin Kavalec, a Boston College recruit, is a top-10 player to watch in the region. Three of Saint Ignatius' home games - versus Mentor (Week 3), Glenville (Week 6) and St. Edward (Week 10) - are among the region's top-10 games to watch.

*The Wildcats' final mini camps will run July 23-27, with the junior varsity reporting to Wasmer Field at 3 p.m., and the varsity at 4:30. The following Monday, July 30, the pigskin will be flying and the pads will be rattling all over the state as two-a-days officially begin.

As we reported on the corner several times, the highy regarded Solon Comets will be at Wasmer Field on the morning of Aug. 7 for drills, the 'Cats will travel to Twinsburg on Aug. 10 for a scrimmage with the talented Tigers at 10 a.m., and the preseason "Jamboree" with the Canton McKinley Bulldogs will be Aug. 17 in legendary Fawcett Stadium at 7 p.m.

Eleven-time Division I state champion Saint Ignatius opens its 2012 season on Aug. 25 in Browns Stadium against 2011 Division III state champ and eight-time state champion Youngstown Cardinal Mooney. The 7 p.m. kickoff is part of the annual Charity Game doubleheader, with the first game matching the North Royalton Bears and the Tom Tupa-led Brescksville-Broadview Heights Bees at 2 p.m.

Rounding the corner and eager for July 23 to come around. I hate this idle time in July.
