Congratulations go out to senior cross country standout Jack Miller, who is being honored as a Plain Dealer Player of the Week for his outstanding performance at last weekend's Legends Meet in the Trumbull County Fairgrounds, where he led the Wildcats to first place.

Jack, who will help lead the Wildcats' harriers into Saturday's Ohio Independent Schools Invitational in Massillon, has been a model of consistency for the state's second-ranked program.

*Just a reminder that Coach Mike McLaughlin '85 (298 career victories) will send his nationally acclaimed and record five-time Division I state champion varsity soccer program into tomorrow (Thursday) night's match against University School on Wasmer Field. Coach Jim Brennan's ('85) junior varsity team will face the Preppers at 6 and the varsity match will follow at 8. The corner will be on hand for game coverage and the action will be broadcast live over the Saint Ignatius Student Broadcasting Network. University School is ranked fifth in the state in Division II.

Despite its impressive 4-3, come-from-two-goals-behind victory over Wisconsin power Marquette University High School in Milwaukee last weekend, a triumph that snapped the Hilltoppers' 52-match unbeaten streak, Coach McLaughlin's team remained 17th in this week's national rankings by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Marquette University dropped from 12th to 15th. The 'Cats (11-0-3) remain second in the coaches' state poll for Division 1.

For those readers who have inquired, yes, if Saint Ignatius and St. Edward meet in a district final rematch, the Eagles would be the home team based on the seeding. The Wildcats and St. Edward battled to a 0-0 tie on Sept. 19 at Coughlin Field.

*And another reminder that Coach Ryan Franzinger '02 will lead his 5-2 junior varsity football team against the Glenville Tarblooders' jayvees on Friday night at 6 on Wasmer Field. The corner will provide game coverage and John Fanta '13 and Co. will describe the action over the SIBN.

For the corner's outlook on Saturday's varsity football game versus St. Francis, see the preview below.

Rounding the corner and appreciating yet another magical night from the old-timer - Raul Ibanez. That's what the great teams do - sign those players who still have plenty left. You can take it from there.
