Where the 'Cats play!

OK, we have your Saturday all planned out for you.

At 10 a.m., the junior varsity football teams from Saint Ignatius and St. Edward will meet on Wasmer Field.

If cross country is your desire, you can watch the Wildcats' harriers, ranked second in Ohio, as they run in the Tiffin Regional at 12:30 p.m.

Now things heat up, sports-wise that is. "Frankenstorm," as some of the experts are calling 2012's East Coast-bound perfect storm, is expected to lower the temperatures dramatically.

At 1:30 p.m., the two-time defending and record five-time state champion Saint Ignatius varsity soccer team (15-0-3), ranked No. 1 in the coaches' state poll, will take on the St. Edward Eagles (13-1-4), the top seed in the University Heights sectional/district, in a district championship game on the Eagles' Coughlin Field.

The 'Cats and the Eagles played to a 0-0 tie on Coughlin Field during the regular season and area soccer fans will never forget the dramatic Golden Goal victory by Saint Ignatius over St. Edward in last year's district final on Wasmer Field.

All of the above lead up to the annual varsity football encounter between Saint Ignatius (9-0) and St. Edward (9-0) on Saturday night at 7 on Parma's Byers Field (see the corner's preview stories from earlier in the week).

In what will be the 50th meeting between the perennial West Side powers, Saint Ignatius leads the series, 27-21-1. Wildcats head coach Chuck Kyle '69 will be seeking his 300th career victory.

Although both teams have already clinched a playoff spot in Region 1 and a home game in the regional quarterfinals, the traditonal battle is once again a sellout. If you don't have a ticket, you can catch all of the action over the Saint Ignatius Student Broadcasting Network (live audio and video).

SportsTime Ohio will also be televising the game live.

If you need to do some grocery shopping on Saturday, get up early and visit the historical West Side Market, which sits just a few blocks down Lorain Avenue from Wasmer Field in where-it's-happening Ohio City.

Rounding the corner and getting ready for triple-header coverage!
