Saturday night's Division I, Region 1 championship game between the Mentor Cardinals (11-1) and the Saint Ignatius Wildcats (11-1) will be played at Parma's Byers Field in Robert M. Boulton Stadium. The kickoff will be at 7 and the game will be broadcast live by the Saint Ignatius Student Broadcasting Network. Seniors John Fanta and Greg Ziton will have the call.

SportsTime Ohio has announced it will televise the game live.

Saint Ignatius Athletic Director Rory Fitzpatrick '88 said Mentor gave the okay on Byers Field, a facility the Cardinals have played at numerous times, including last night. Byers Field is Saint Ignatius' home field during the regular season, however, Mentor will be the home team on Saturday night and its fans will sit on the larger home press box side of Byers Field.

The Wildcats and the Cardinals met in last season's Region 1 final, with Saint Ignatius turning away Mentor, 23-17, in Lakewood Stadium. The perennial big-school powers played in Week 3 of this season and the Wildcats defeated the Cardinals, 48-21, at Byers Field.

In what is one of the classiest rivalries in all of Ohio, Saint Ignatius leads the all-time series, 10-4.

Coach Steve Trivisonno's Cardinals, behind their brilliant senior quarterback Mitch Trubisky and wideout Brandon Fritts, advanced to Saturday's Region 1 final by running off 28 unanswered points and defeating previously unbeaten and top-ranked St. Edward, 63-56, last night on Byers Field.

Of course the 'Cats advanced to their 17th Region 1 championship game by overwhelming North Royalton, 56-0, last night as Tim McVey put on a record performance in Lakewood Stadium (see the corner's story below). The corner will preview Saturday's Region 1 matchup with Mentor on Tuesday night and give you a little more history on the rivalry.
