And we pose the question. Is defense becoming a lost art in football? Well, at least not at Saint Ignatius. I can assure you of that (see item at the end).

****Tickets for Saturday night's Division I, Region 1 championship football game between the Wildcats (11-1) and the Mentor Cardinals (11-1) will go on sale Tuesday at 8 a.m. Please go to the ticket windows in the main building.

As we reported on the corner Sunday, the game will be broadcast live by the Saint Ignatius Student Broadcasting Network, with the golden tones of seniors John Fanta and Greg Ziton describing the action, SportsTime Ohio will televise the game live and the game will be broadcast live on WHKW-AM 1220 with the pre-game at 6:35 p.m. Ed Daugherty and Mike Gibbons '70 will call it as they see it for WHKW. The kickoff from Parma's Byers Field will be 7 p.m.

****Later today (Monday), the corner will begin its winter sports previews by taking a look at the 2012-13 Saint Ignatius Bowling Team. The "Alley Cats" are knocking 'em down in preparation for Saturday's opener with St. Edward at the Cloverleaf Lanes.

****On Tuesday night, the corner previews the Saint Ignatius-Mentor Region 1 title game, as we will also take a deeper look into what has become one of the top Catholic vs. Public School football rivalries in the nation, one that epitomizes class.

****And later this week, the corner's winter sports previews continue as we break down the Wildcats' outstanding varsity hockey program for 2012-13, a season in which the "Ice Cats" become the hunter and not the hunted.

****Offense, offense!: With high school scores around the state and the country looking more like basketball results than football finals, here is the lastest air show that took place this past weekend: Davidson Day (N.C.) junior quarterback Will Grier passed for a new national single-game record of 837 yards in leading his team to a 104-80 victory over Harrells (N.C.) Christian Academy on Friday night. Grier, who completed 35 of his 42 passes on Friday, has now tossed the pigskin for 64 touchdowns this fall, which ties him for sixth place on that all-time single-season national list.

Come on now fellas, don't you recall that defense wins championships? A combined score of 184! Do they even have defensive coaches at those two schools???

Rounding the corner and getting ready for the visitors' side of Byers Field, just as the Wildcats' faithful did in the 2008 regional final against Strongsville. That was a night when the weather was ALMOST as bad as last year's trip to Athol Springs, N.Y., where the gales of November came early and often. Nothing weather-wise will top that night at St. Francis. You had to be there, my friends.
