The Saint Ignatius varsity hockey team opened its regular season by defeating Lake Catholic, 7-1, on Friday evening in the DiPaolo Memorial Tournament held on the campus of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Goals were scored by Miles McQuinn (2), Kevin Yarcusko, Alex McNulty, Beck Schultz, Ethan Whitney and Nick Gajkowski. Assisting on goals were McQuinn (2), Riley Ellis, Jared Stepka, Harry Smith (2), Schultz, Brady Wells, Jack Wiegandt, Brian Fitzgerald, and Matty Geither. Shots were 42-15 in favor of Saint Ignatius. Goalie Bernie Cook had 14 saves.

The tournament continues on Saturday, when the Wildcats will face Olentangy Liberty at 9:30 a.m. and Oxford Talawanda at 3:45 p.m.
