Saint Ignatius Athletics Director Rory Fitzpatrick '88 announced today that Rugby will become the 16th varsity sport at the Jesuit Preparatory School in Ohio City. Currently, the Ohio High School Athletic Association does not include Rugby among its sanctioned sports.

Here is the news release.

Saint Ignatius High School will sponsor a varsity Rugby team to begin play in the 2013 spring season. Rugby will be the 16th varsity sport at Saint Ignatius High School. Previously a club sport, the program has attracted the attention of more than 200 current students. With a coaching staff of 21, including many alumni, the Rugby program will field 4 teams: varsity, junior varsity, developmental and freshmen.

Good Luck from this corner to all of the Wildcats competing in Rugby, now and in the future, and all of the best to the various coaches guiding these young men.
