At the end of Friday's practice, Saint Ignatius head basketball coach Sean O'Toole '87 gathered with his team in Sullivan Gymnasium and told them that All-District senior post/forward Derek Sloan, All-District senior guard Francisco Santiago and junior point guard Danny Bova were voted as the Wildcats' tri-captains for the 2012-13 season. The voting was done by the players and the coaches.

*In a new format this season, Coach O'Toole will have a fourth different captain every week. The fourth-captain honor will go to the player who during that week exudes the desire, effort and leadership that are synonymous with Saint Ignatius basketball.

Representing the Wildcats as the fourth captain for Saturday night's season opener against John Hay is senior wing Austin Sterpka. The Wildcats and the Hornets (1-2) will tip off at 7:30 in Sullivan Gymnasium following the junior varsity game, which is scheduled for 6.

Coach O'Toole also announced that senior point guard/two guard Bryan Fisher, who, like Sterpka, displayed endless hustle in preseason, will be the honorary captain for the Dec. 15 Week 2 game against Shaw in Sullivan Gymnasium.

This corner congratulates Derek, Danny, Francisco, Austin and Bryan, and wishes all of the best to the entire team and coaching staff as they approach another memorable season.

God Bless, Gentlemen.

WILDCATS AT THE IRONMAN

Saint Ignatius was in 43nd place with 13 points after the first day/night session of the nationally acclaimed Ironman wrestling tournament at Walsh Jesuit.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Coach Jeff Ridler's Wildcats had an eventful Friday night in Upper Arlington, as they captured the 200 meter free relay by .03. Upper Arlington, behind its performance in the 400 meter free relay, edged the 'Cats. Saint Ignatius earned a split on the evening by coming away victorious against Firestone.

On Saturday, the Wildcats will compete in the prestigious Ned Reeb Invitational at The Ohio State University.
