Along with the varsity basketball games against University School at John Carroll University tonight and at Lorain on Saturday night (see the corner's preview from Tuesday), the Wildcats' other winter sports teams will be in the post-Christmas break groove this weekend.

The Ice Cats (15-4-3), the top-ranked hockey team in the state, will look to strengthen their first-place position (4-0-2) in the GCHSHL Red West Division when they face off with the Lake Catholic Cougars on the ice inside Brooklyn's John M. Coyne Recreation Center on Saturday. The puck will drop in "The Big Barn on Memphis" at 4:45 p.m.

Saint Ignatius defeated Lake Catholic, 7-1, in the Miami of Ohio Tournament over Thanksgiving Weekend, but the Cougars came back to tie the Ice Cats, 1-1, on Dec. 19 in the Mentor Civic Arena. Wildcats standout senior captain Miles McQuinn enters Saturday's game with 21 goals and 13 assists.

Coach Mark Sullivan's wrestling team will be at St. Vincent-St. Mary on Saturday for a tri-match with the Fighting Irish and the Brunswick Blue Devils. The action begins at 6 p.m.

The Wildcats' swimming and diving team is scheduled to face University School this evening at 5 at Hathaway Brown, and on Saturday morning at 9 the 'Cats will compete in the Northeast Classic.

And your weekend in Saint Ignatius athletics wouldn't be complete without the strike-throwing Alley Cats of head bowling coach John Kastanis. The Alley Cats will be knocking 'em down against Brookside on Saturday morning at Cloverleaf Lanes.
