After a scorless first period that got underway at 7:15 A.M., Ohio's top-ranked team laid four lamp lighters on the Meadville Bulldogs and carried the action the rest of the way to a 6-0 triumph.

The Ice Cats, who advanced to Saturday afternoon's 2:45 faceoff with Erie Cathedral Prep, opened the second period on a power play goal.

Senior Captain Miles McQuinn ripped a shot from his anchor position (the point,) sophomore forward Jack Wiegandt collected the rebound and slid it across the seam to junior defenseman Harry Smith, who buried it. McQuinn and Wiegandt were credited on the assists.

Three minutes later, while Saint Ignatius was playing shorthanded, McQuinn handled the puck in the Meadville zone, walked around the net and put a shot past the goaltender to make it 2-0. Senior Assistant Captain Joey Malone assisted McQuinn.

Sophomore forward Brady Wells then fed a pass through the triangle to freshman forward Jared Stepka and Stepka, in a one-on-one with the goaltender, faked right and backhanded it over the goalie for a 3-0 lead. Wells and junior forward Beck Schultz were recognized for the helpers.

Schultz closed out the second-period barrage by a pulling off a spin move on the left side of the cage and firing the puck at the net, where it made its way through the legs of the Bulldogs' keeper. Stepka assisted.

Junior defenseman Nick Gajkowski pushed the Ice Cats' advantage to 5-0 off an assist from freshman forward Cam Gerard and junior forward Riley Ellis closed out the scoring with a 20-footer low to the stick
side of the goalkeeper. Sophomore forward Kevin Yarcusko and Smith assisted on the morning's final goal.

The Ice Cats controlled the tempo all morning and senior goalie Mike Mulach turned away the 10 shots he faced en route to the shutout. The corner will have a recap on the Erie Cathedral Prep matchup later tonight after we cover the basketball rivalry between Saint Ignatius and St. Edward in a sold-out Sullivan Gymnasium.
