Coming up on the corner

The corner is headed to Sullivan Gymnasium tonight to cover the Wildcats' gifted junior varsity basketball team (12-2), as it takes on the Brunswick Blue Devils at 6 bells.

As usual, the weekly Plain Dealer and Associated Press varsity basketball polls will be released this evening between 6 and 6:30. So after we return from our game coverage on Coach Larry Arthur's junior varsity team, we will discuss the polls.

With Coach Sean O'Toole's varsity basketball team (12-3) putting together three impressive victories this past weekend, there is a chance, and we emphasize a chance, that the 'Cats could improve their positions in the polls. Last week, Coach O'Toole's team was ranked third in The PD's area poll and eighth in the AP's Division I state poll.

On Tuesday at 5 p.m., the corner will be at the "Big Barn on Memphis," a.ka. the John M. Coyne Recreation Center in Brooklyn, to cover the hottest show on ice - Coach Pat O'Rourke's varsity hockey team. The state's top-ranked Wildcats (23-4-3) will take a 13-game winning streak into the faceoff with the Strongsville Mustangs.

And coming Wednesday night, the corner will preview this weekend's varsity basketball games versus Glenville (Friday night at Sullivan Gym) and Perrysburg (Saturday night at Perrysburg).

Have a great week and weekend.
