As we reported in a post on Monday night that followed our junior varsity basketball story (see story below), Saint Ignatius Athletic Director Rory Fitzpatrick '88 not only secured the Week 5 date against New Jersey power Paramus Catholic for the 2013 and 2014 football seasons, but was also burning the midnight oil trying to wrap up a game for Week 1.

Well, Rory informed the corner today that Week 1 is now filled. The Wildcats will travel to Wayne State University to play Michigan power Brother Rice on the Saturday of opening weekend at a time to be determined.

In the fall of 2012, Brother Rice ran off eight consecutive victories and capped its 12-2 season by bringing home its second consecutive Division 2 state championship. And a significant number of juniors played huge roles.

With the confirmation on Week 1, the Wildcats now have 7 secured games for 2013. You must have at least eight games on your schedule to compete for a spot in the OHSAA playoffs.

That said, Rory is now busy trying to wrap up a Week 6 game with a team that we hope to tell you more about verry soon. It would be a two-year contract. If week 6 is confirmed, Saint Ignatius would have the mandatory 8 games and would still be looking to fill Weeks 7 and 8.

****This is how the Wildcats' 2013 schedule looks as of Tuesday afternoon: Week 1 vs. Brother Rice at Wayne State; Week 2 at Mentor; Weeks 3 & 4 versus Erie (Pa.) schools Strong Vincent and McDowell at Byers Field; Week 5 versus Paramus Catholic at Byers Field; Week 6 (Pending); Week 7 (open); Week 8 (open); Week 9 versus Cincinnati St. Xavier at John Carroll University and Week 10 versus St. Edward at Lakewood Stadium.
