Congratulations from the corner go out to Wildcats senior Mike LaManna, who made a verbal commitment tonight to further his academic and football careers at Ashland University.

Mike, whose outstanding play at quarterback helped Saint Ignatius to an 11-2 record this past fall and an appearance in the Division I, Region 1 championship game, said he had a great official visit to Ashland University last week.

"I was very impressed not only with the football staff, but also with the campus," Mike said in an e-mail he sent to the corner last night. "They made me an offer I couldn't refuse. They have a new College of Business and Economics building and I plan on earning a degree in the business field.

"Coach Owens (Eagles head coach Lee Owens), along with the entire football staff, is very impressed with my skills as a quarterback and I'm looking forward to the opportunity of playing football competitively another four years with a great program," Mike continued. "Although I had an offer from St. Francis (Pa.), which is a Division 1-AA school, when considering many different factors, Ashland was the best fit for me."

Again, congratulations to Mike and his entire family and a big thanks to Mike, his family and the entire Saint Ignatius Administration for allowing this reporter the privilege and pleasure to report on such a gifted and classy young man.
