Senior Mike Cray, who was recognized as Saint Ignatius' Most Valuable Offensive Lineman for the 2012 season, said he will be furthering his education and football career at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio.

Mike, whose play at guard helped the Wildcats to a record 11th Division I state football championship in 2011 and an 11-2 record and an appearance in the Region 1 championship game this past fall, earned Associated Press All-Northeast Lakes District and All-Ohio honors in November.

Mike said Walsh has a new coaching staff that is focused on restoring the Division II program to a higher level of play on the field. He said he chose Walsh over Ashland University, where his teammate and classmate, quarterback Mike LaManna, recently committed (see the corner's story from last week).

The 6-1, 260-pound Cray will be playing in the interior on Walsh's offensive line, a position he is naturally comfortable with after excelling there for the Wildcats.

Mike emphasized that he is really impressed with the facilities at Walsh, including the Pre-Dental and Sciences Building. He said he wants to study to become a dentist.

Congratulations to Mike and his family from a guy who considered it a privilege to cover and report on Mike and his teammates.
