Cats basketball No. 2 in PD poll and eighth in AP state poll. Baseball opponent at Progressive Field is set.

Ohio City - As expected and deservingly so, Coach Sean O'Toole's varsity basketball Wildcats moved from third to second place in this week's Plain Dealer seven-county Top 25 poll.

The Wildcats (14-3) took over second place from St. Edward after defeating the Eagles for the second time this season. The Mentor Cardinals remain in the top spot.

Rounding out The PD's Top 10 are No. 3 Villa Angela-St. Joseph, No. 4 St. Edward, No. 5 Garfield Heights, No. 6 Shaker Heights, No. 7 St. Vincent-St. Mary, No. 8 Cleveland Heights, No. 9 Cleveland Central Catholic and No. 10 Richmond Heights.

In the latest Associated Press Division I state poll, Saint Ignatius remained in the eighth spot. Mentor continued to hold down the sixth-place ranking and St. Edward is 12th this week. Unbeaten Columbus Northland remains No. 1 among the big schools with 24 first-place votes.

*PRIME TIME BASEBALL: Saint Ignatius head baseball coach Brad Ganor confirmed that his Wildcats will play Avon Lake in Progressive Field on April 26th. The first pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m.

COMING TUESDAY NIGHT ON THE CORNER: A preview on the Wildcats' big basketball week, which includes a trip to The PD's No. 8 Cleveland Heights on Thursday night and Saturday night's headliner in Sullivan Gymnasium against No. 3 Villa Angela-St. Joseph, which is currently on a 12-game winning streak. The Vikings are ranked No. 1 in the AP's Division IV state poll.
