Saint Ignatius' gifted junior linebacker/safety Dameon Willis Jr. told the corner on Sunday that he has received scholarship offers from the football programs at Louisville and Western Michigan.

Dameon said Louisville and Western Michigan join Cincinnati, Bowling Green and Toledo on his list of college offers.

Congratulations to Dameon and his family, as he and his teammates are definitely putting in the off season work for what is sure to be a special 2013 season.

RUGBY ON THE ROAD AGAIN (NOTE CHANGE IN SATURDAY'S SCHEDULE): Saint Ignatius' Varsity A rugby team, which split its opening-season encounters in Columbus on Saturday, will travel to the Moose Rugby Grounds in Indiana this weekend.

The only setback the Rugby A 'Cats experienced at The Ohio State University on Saturday was a 17-0 loss to defending national champion Cathedral (IN).

During this weekend's Indiana trip, the A 'Cats will face Neuqua at 2 p.m. and Waubonsie at 6 bells, and on St. Patrick's Day they will get their Irish on for Penn (IN) in a 1:45 battle. The St. Patrick's Day encounter will be played on Penn's home pitch in Elkart, Indiana. Rugbymag.com has Penn ranked sixth in the country.

As for last weekend, seniors Max Baughman and Brett Bendokaitis, sophomore Michael Mathews and juniors Ryan Linker, Shane Guhde, Aedan Mangan and John Lawler produced their first tries (touchdowns) in what is the Wildcats' first season of rugby as a varsity sport. Mathews provided three tries and he and Linker were both 3-of-6 on conversion kicks.

AND SPEAKING OF GETTING YOUR IRISH ON: The corner sends out its congratulations to Saint Ignatius' outstanding senior hockey foursome of Miles McQuinn, Alex McNulty, Joey Malone and Bernie Cook, who helped lead the North to a 9-7 overtime victory over the South in the Ohio Senior All-Star Game at Nationwide Arena on Saturday.

En route to garnering MVP honors, Miles scored five goals, including three down the decisive stretch. Joey displayed his versatility by moving from defenseman to forward and producing three assists.

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE INQUIRED: The corner will crank up this old, but proven right arm and begin the Saint Ignatius Spring Sports previews with a look at Coach Brad Ganor's varsity baseball team and Coach Chuck Kyle's varsity track and field team during the week of March 18.
