If Mother Nature doesn't have other plans, this week will be a smorgasbord of action in Saint Ignatius' spring sports.

Here is the corner's breakdown by sport, which includes a prime-time main course from Progressive Field.

BASEBALL

Tuesday - Coach Brad Ganor's Wildcats, coming off an impressive week that saw them win four out of five games, are scheduled to play their home opener against the always sound Willoughby South Rebels at Classic Park in Eastlake. The first pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday - The baseball 'Cats return to Classic Park to face rival St. Edward at 4:30. It's the Wildcats and the Eagles. There is no need to say more.

****Friday - Coach Ganor's club will face Avon Lake as part of the annual Cleveland Indians Charities High School Hardball Classic at Progressive Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. On April 23, 2010 the Wildcats and the Shoremen also met in the Hardball Classic at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario, and the 'Cats rode a pitching committee to a 1-0 victory.

Saturday - It's a quick turnaround for the 'Cats as they travel to the friendly confines of Strongsville High School on Saturday morning to face the baseball savvy Mustangs at 10 and the Avon Eagles at 12:30. Avon posted a combined record of 47-6 over 2011 and 2012. Those 47 wins produced consecutive conference titles (West Shore) for the first time in the program's history.

****Note: The golden tones of senior John Fanta and his staff will broadcast all five of this week's baseball games live over the Saint Ignatius Student Broadcasting Network and the corner will provide game coverages.

TRACK AND FIELD: Coach Chuck Kyle's Wildcats, fresh off their outstanding championship performance at the Miele Invitational, will be competing in Saturday's Amherst Comet Relays. Competition begins at 9 a.m.

LACROSSE: Coach Pat McManamon's tough and talented program will put its unbeaten mark on the line Tuesday at Hudson (7 p.m.). On Thursday it is a trip to Aldersyde Drive for a match up with the Shaker Heights Raiders at 7, and on Saturday the Lax 'Cats will face St. John's Jesuit in Toledo at 1 p.m.

CREW: Coach Pat Connor's Crew 'Cats will be competing in Saturday's Ohio Governor's Cup in Columbus.

TENNIS: It's a demanding week for Coach Jon Barker's program. But then when isn't it? The Wildcats take on Mayfyeld on Tuesday at Magnificat (4 p.m.), Walsh Jesuit comes calling on Wednesday at Magnificat (4:15), Friday it is off to Uniontown Lake (4:15) and on Saturday it is the Medina Doubles Tournament at 8 a.m. Please note that Thursday's match against St. Edward at Magnificat has been postponed until May 3.

RUGBY: Coach Dan Arbeznik's Varsity A, which played to an impressive 14-14 tie with Archbishop Moeller on Friday night, is scheduled to face St. Edward Saturday night at 7:30 on Wasmer Field.

VOLLEYBALL: Coach Casey Marcelo's Wildcats will take it to the net at Brunswick on Tuesday night at 7 and will travel to Centerville, Ohio on Saturday for the Elite 8 Tournament. Saturday's play begins at 10 a.m.

And thus another week for the magnificent seven, also known as Saint Ignatius' spring sports teams.
