Brooklyn, Ohio - His nickname among some of the teachers at Saint Ignatius is "The Governor." And fittingly so.

Senior John Fanta, who seems to have a governing hand in almost every activity that takes place on the campus of Cleveland's Jesuit Preparatory School, told the corner on Monday evening that he will be furthering his education and endless potential as a sports broadcaster at Seton Hall University. Seton Hall is a Roman Catholic University located in South Orange, New Jersey.

John, whose colorful tell-it-like-it-is broadcasts and endless sports knowledge have helped Saint Ignatius' Student Broadcasting Network and Student Sports Information Department to national awards, chose Seton Hall after also considering John Carroll University, Fordham, Ohio University, St. Bonaventure and Syracuse.

Among the major factors in John's decision were that he got a solid financial package from Seton Hall and that he has an opportunity to do some broadcasting for the Pirates' athletic programs as a freshman. John says there is a strong possibility of him doing from 5 to 15 basketball games over WSOU, Seton Hall Pirates Radio.

"I can't thank the people at Saint Ignatius enough for everything they have done for me over the past four years," said John, who is also a member of the Wildcats' award-winning Chorus and is deeply involved spiritually and musically at his home parish - St. Bernadette in Westlake. "If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't change a thing. From the athletics to the arts, you can't put a price on it."

There is also no number that could match John's value to Saint Ignatius, as sometimes it appears as though he lives at West 30th and Lorain Avenue.

From the gifted athletes whose exploits he describes so passionately over the air, to the students who meet him for the first time, the sentiment is the same - how much John truly loves his school.

Congratulations to John's family, the SIBN, the SSID and the outstanding faculty and administration at Saint Ignatius for molding John's God-given talents into a true man for others.

And a special congratulations from this old-timer to a young man who truly can carry the tag of: "The sky's the limit."
