After a cold and damp April, Mother Nature appears to be in a spring sports state of mind. And here is hoping she remains congenial throughout May and early June.

This week offers another full slate of Saint Ignatius' spring competition and, as always, the corner will give you a Monday through Sunday breakdown. So check it out and make your plans as to which 'Cats you want to
follow.

Or, if you are unable to make it out to an event, the Saint Ignatius Student Broadcasting Network, with veterans John Fanta and Greg Ziton heading down the stretch of their outstanding broadcasting careers at the Jesuit Preparatory School in Ohio City, will be bringing you lacrosse and baseball this week. The SIBN schedule follows the breakdown on each sport.

BASEBALL: Coach Brad Ganor's Wildcats (15-6), coming off a strong performance in the Ohio Jesuit Tournament and a second seed for the OHSAA Strongsville Division I sectional/district (see the corner's stories from Sunday afternoon), embark on another demanding week.

The Wildcats, winners of 10 of their past 11 games, travel to tradition-rich Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (4:30) on Wednesday and on Thursday it is off to Stow (4;30). The Stow Bulldogs agreed to host the 'Cats after Cuyahoga Falls canceled for Thursday.

Saint Ignatius will be at storied Lakewood Stadium on Friday for the traditional junior varsity (4:30) and varsity (7 p.m.) doubleheader with the Rangers, and on Saturday morning and afternoon it is another great tradition - the triple header (freshman, junior varsity and varsity) against West Side rival St. Edward at Baldwin Wallace University. The action begins at 10 a.m., with the varsity game slated for 4 p.m.

NOTE: Saturday's triple header will benefit the research for Tay-Sachs Disease.

TRACK AND FIELD: Coach Chuck Kyle's deep and talented team will continue to prepare for the Lakewood District (May 22 and 24) when it travels to the history-rich Euclid Relays on Friday. The competition from Sparky DiBiasio Stadium begins at 3 p.m.

The Wildcats are coming off a strong third-place finish (one point out of second place) at the Gary Smith Invitational in Worthington. See the corner's recap from Saturday night.

TENNIS: Coming off a 3-2 victory at Massillon Jackson on Monday, Coach Jon Barker's Wildcats will face Hudson at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the courts on the campus of "Magnificent Magnificat." On Wednesday the 'Cats travel to Western Reserve Academy (4 p.m.). OHSAA sectional play is set to begin the week of May 13.

Note: The gifted young women from Magnificat, whom the corner reported on "back in the day," will always remember The Plain Dealer headline that accompanied the first district championship in the Blue Streaks' rich basketball history - "Magnificent Magnificat!"

LACROSSE: Coach Pat McManamon's Lax 'Cats, sporting an impressive 10-1 record, will host Westlake on Wednesday night at Wasmer Field. Action begins at 7:30. The 'Cats will travel to Hawken School on Saturday for a match up with Hampton (Pa.) at 3 p.m.

CREW: Coach Pat Connor's Crew 'Cats are scheduled to compete in the prestigious Midwest Championships on May 10-12 at Dillon Lake in Zanesville. For an update on the Crew 'Cats, see the corner's post from Monday.

RUGBY: The Wildcats' Varsity A Team, which put together an outstanding championship-game, runner-up performance in the Midwest Invitational, is at Hudson on Friday night at 7:30. Coach Dan Arbeznik's team can celebrate an Ohio-best 18th-place ranking in rugbymag.com's latest Top 25 national rankings.

VOLLEYBALL: Coach Casey Marcelo's team, ranked an all-time program high fourth in the state, will be at St. Edward on Tuesday night (6 bells) for the rubber match and will host Andrews Osborne in Sullivan Gym on Thursday night at 7. District play is scheduled for May 10-14.

Here is what the SIBN crew has on tap for this week.

WEDNESDAY - The Lax 'Cats as they take on the Westlake Demons from Wasmer Field at 7:30.

FRIDAY - Wildcats varsity baseball from the "Madhouse on Madison," known officially as Lakewood Stadium, at 7 p.m.

SATURDAY - All three baseball games (freshman, junior varsity and varsity) versus St. Edward from Baldwin Wallace University. Again, the action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
