Cats tennis puts together a strong showing at Oberlin College sectionals

Coach Jon Barker's gifted Varsity A tennis team opened its OHSAA tournament play with a dominate effort at the Division I Oberlin College sectionals on Tuesday.

Here is a breakdown on Tuesday's key matches involving the Wildcats. And yes, according to the parings, we could have a Wildcat versus a Wildcat in Saturday's semifinals.

Singles

Quarterfinals

Nathan Griffin (Saint Ignatius) defeated Macklin Robbins (Avon), 6-0, 6-0; Jake Dubusker (St. Edward) versus Sean Frebes (Saint Ignatius) (Friday); Nico Mostardi (Avon) defeated Karl Fehn (Saint Ignatius), 6-1, 6-2.

Saturday’s Semifinal Pairings (Top 4 advance to district play). Note: Saturday's action begins at 9 a.m.

Nathan Griffin vs. Jake Dubusker-Sean Frebes winner; Jeffrey Williams (St. Edward) vs. Nico Mostardi.

Doubles

Quarterfinals: Christian Zuber and Yaw Boakye of Saint Ignatius defeated Rares Botosneanu-Davesh Chauhan (North Olmsted), 6-0, 6-0; Nick Siciliano and Bob Kirchner of Saint Ignatius defeated Chris Brinich-Chris Richardson (Lakewood), 6-3, 6-1.

Saturday’s Semifinal Pairings (Top 4 advance to districts)

Christian Zuber and Yaw Boakye (Saint Ignatius) vs. Kent Dinchman-Kevin Wang (Westlake); Connor Michelich-Cal Craven (Westlake) vs. Nick Siciliano and Bob Kirchner (Saint Ignatius).
