Just a reminder on football camps

The Saint Ignatius football Wildcats, having secured a full 10-game regular season schedule (see the corner's story from FRIDAY, July 19), will take the field for Mini Camps 5 and 6 on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Coach Chuck Kyle '69 and his staff ask that the junior varsity reports to Wasmer Field by 3 p.m. each day. The varsity should report by 4:30.

For Bill from University Heights, who e-mailed the corner today and asked about the pre-season tune-ups for 2013, they are as follows Bill: Aug. 13 at Solon High School for the annual 10 a.m. practice/drills with Coach Jim McQuaide's Comets, Aug. 16 at Wasmer Field for a 10 a.m. scrimmage versus the Twinsburg Tigers and the annual Jamboree with the Canton McKinley Bulldogs on Aug. 23 in tradition-rich Canton Fawcett Stadium. The Wildcats and the Bulldogs will take part in a split-field scrimmage on the freshman and junior varsity levels at 5 p.m., and the varsity Jamboree, which will be played under game conditions, will kick off at 7 p.m. It is always great to return to the 'Cats' home away from home in Stark County and be part of the grand facility's 75 years of memories. In this corner's humble opinion, there is no better atmosphere under the Friday Night Lights.

From there, the focus centers on the Warriors from Brother Rice, who are coming off consecutive Michigan Division II state championships. Saint Ignatius opens its 2013 season against Brother Rice on Saturday, Aug. 31 at Wayne State University. The kick off will be 1:30 p.m. Brother Rice's legendary 80-year-old head coach Al Fracassa is gearing up for his final season in a five-plus decade career.
