Ohio City - With the first day of classes at Saint Ignatius set to begin on Thursday, the Wildcats' junior varsity and varsity football teams went through a two-hour practice session on Saturday morning.

Head Coach Chuck Kyle '69 put an emphasis on fine-tuning technique, some things that have to be sharpened as the Wildcats head into their final preseason test on Friday night against the Canton McKinley Bulldogs at legendary Fawcett Stadium.

Friday's varsity competition, known as a "Jamboree," will be played under regular game conditions at 7 PM. Split-field freshman and junior varsity scrimmages between the Wildcats and the Bulldogs will precede the varsity Jamboree at 5 PM. The corner will take a look at the varsity Bulldogs as part of next week's practice reports.

As for Saturday's shortened practice session, junior linebacker Brady Wells came up with an interception, the first-team offensive line, which was coming off a solid performance during Friday's scrimmage against Twinsburg, was again authoritative, and junior quarterback Jake Kucia drew a few "OKs" from veteran offensive coordinator Nick Restifo and quarterbacks coach Elvis Grbac. Jake hooked up with senior wide receiver Bennett Kinzel on a couple of nice roll-out throws near the end of practice.

In closing, the corner would like to congratulate the very promising Wildcats freshman team for its strong performance during Friday's scrimmage at Twinsburg. The word from the scrimmage is that the future is very bright.

Practice resumes Monday at 2:30 PM on Wasmer Field. It will most likely be the final day of double sessions, but that is not a guarantee.
