As Saint Ignatius' outstanding Student Manager Kyle Kostura '15 emphasized, the future of Saint Ignatius football looks very bright.

All summer long the talk from Kyle Field was about the exceptional defense Saint Ignatius' freshman football team was playing and that came to the fore in Friday evening's season opener at Youngstown Cardinal Mooney.

Behind a strong and relentless effort by the young D, the Wildcats shut down Cardinal Mooney, 13-0.

Defense and special teams set the tone early, as the Wildcats took a 5-0 lead in first quarter by forcing a bad snap that resulted in a safety and adding three more points on a field goal by Colin Goodfellow.

Some more strong work by the defense and special teams resulted in another safety in the third quarter and tailback Kayden Russell displayed his balance and quick feet in scoring the game's only touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Among those Wildcats laying down the D was Adam Shibley, brother of Saint Ignatius' talented varsity receiver David Shibley '15.

Scoring was courtesy of Kyle Kostura.
