With September about to give away to the colors of October, Saint Ignatius' fall sports teams will be looking to close out the month in style.

As we reported on Sunday, Coach Brian Becker's varsity golf team will be back in action on Thursday when they team up with St. Edward to compete against Aurora and Orange in the annual East-West Rider Cup at Beechmont Country Club. The tee off time is listed as 3:45 PM.

Coach Mike Gallagher's cross country program, coming off a strong second-place effort at the Malone Invitational (see Coach Gallagher's report from Sunday evening), will be traveling to the Hilliard Midwest Meet of Champions on Saturday. The varsity race is scheduled for noon, with the JV/Open competition slated for 1 PM.

The Wildcats' soccer program will travel to University School on Tuesday (5 PM), will be at Twinsburg on Thursday (7 PM) and on Saturday Coach Mike McLaughlin's 'Cats take on the defending Division I state champions from Olentangy Liberty at 3 PM on Wasmer Field.

In football, Coach Ryan Franzinger's 2-0 junior varsity team travels to Erie (Pa.) McDowell today (Monday) for a 5 PM kickoff against the Trojans, Coach Rodney Gallaway's 4-0 freshman team will play at Warren Harding on Wednesday at 5:30 PM and Coach Chuck Kyle's varsity Wildcats, ranked sixth in last week's big-school state poll, will host the nationally ranked Paladins from Paramus Catholic (NJ) on Saturday at Byers Field in Parma's Robert M. Boulton Stadium. The kickoff from Ridge Road and Day Drive is scheduled for 2:30 PM.

*NOTE: The official OHSAA football computer ratings through Week 4 are scheduled to be released on Tuesday. However, computer playoff guru Joe Eitel has Saint Ignatius climbing from 13th to seventh this week. Joe's top seven teams in the Northern Region of Division I are Austintown Fitch, Hudson, St. Edward, Elyria, Marysville, Stow and Saint Ignatius. Keep in mind that under the new OHSAA playoff format, Division I is now split up into two regions - Northern and Southern. The top 16 teams in each region at the end of the regular season qualify for the playoffs.

The corner will post an in-depth preview on the Paramus Catholic game on Tuesday night.
