FROM COACH GALLAGHER ON SATURDAY'S MEDINA INVITATIONAL: Who would have thought that a meet on October 5th would have temperatures more like August 5th? But so goes the whims of Mother Nature, and the Wildcats found themselves running with sunny skies, temperatures in the 80s and high humidity.
The Varsity A squad took 2nd place overall despite being without Luke Wagner and Eliot Thorkelson. Congratulations to Tom Sullivan for his top ten finish in 16:53. He was followed by Tim Trentel (17:02), John Nemes (17:18), CJ Ambrosio (17:27), Sean Sovacool (17:34), Jeff Foerg (17:48) and Jim Rogers (18:08).
The "B" squad was led by freshman Andrew Szendrey in 17:27. Connor Reilly (17:50), Will Maier (18:00), Greg Miller (18:12), Mark McHugh (18:13) and Alex Falkenberg (18:30) also scored for the Wildcats. They finished 13th out of 26 teams in the Varsity race.
By the start of the Open Race, the storm clouds started to roll in and the temperature dropped to a more comfortable 75 degrees. Congratulations to the Wildcats for nipping Strongsville for the Open title, 32 to 35. David Meler led the 'Cats in 17:55, finishing 3rd overall with an explosive sprint to the finish. Kevin Keaton (18:02) and Brian Drellishak (18:07) were a few seconds back in 4th and 5th place. Not to be denied, Brennan Leitch (18:16) and Colin Caniglia (18:19) accelerated like sprinters to the finish line to secure the Wildcat victory. Sam Brown (18:25) closed out the scoring for the team.
This week's schedule:
Saturday: NO MEET: Varsity A and B practice, location TBA. All others run an easy 5 miles on your own.
Remaining Meet schedule:
Wednesday, Oct .16th - JV/Open meet at Mastick at 5pm. Bus transportation provided.
*Saturday, October 19th - Districts at Medina. Division I boys race 11:45am. Bus transportation will be provided. Same location as the Medina Festival this weekend. There will be an unofficial Open Race after the Division III Boys race at approximately 1:45pm.
Monday, October 21st - Walsh Running Warrior Classic at Walsh Jesuit High School, time TBA. Bus transportation provided from school.
*Regionals: October 26th Tiffin, time TBA. Bus provided for team if enough interest.
