District golf, a varsity and junior varsity soccer trip to visit our old friends from Gahanna Lincoln and a tripleheader in football that includes the most anticipated junior varsity match up of the season and ends with a varsity encounter against the star-laden Honey Badgers, aka Maryland-based Eastern Christian Academy.

Yes, it's another fall edition of where and when Saint Ignatius' sports teams will be displaying their talents this week.

The pigskin starts flying on Thursday evening, when Coach Rodney Gallaway sends his 5-1 freshman team against the talented freshmen from St. Vincent-St. Mary. The kickoff from Wasmer Field is listed as 6 p.m.

Coach Brian Becker's varsity golf team, riding the momentum of a sectional championship, will be shooting for spots in next weekend's Division I state tournament at The Ohio State University when it competes in tomorrow's (Wednesday) OHSAA Division I District Tournament at Pine Hills Golf Course in Hinckley. Play is set to begin at 9:45 a.m.

In soccer, Coach Mike McLaughlin's Varsity Wildcats (7-3-5), tied for the ninth spot with Cincinnati Turpin in this week's OSSCA Division I state poll, will close out their regular season at 15th-ranked Gahanna Lincoln on Saturday at 3 p.m. The action will begin at 1 p.m., as Coach Jim Brennan's junior varsity team puts its 12-0 record on the line against the Lions' jayvees.

Coach McLaughlin's varsity program had a memorable state-championship game encounter with Gahanna Lincoln in 2009 that saw the Lions edge the Wildcats, 1-0, in a shootout at Crew Stadium in Columbus.

In a note of interest, the Wildcats' varsity soccer team, which garnered the top seed in the area district (see the corner's post from Sunday), will begin OHSAA tournament play on Oct. 19 in a sectional final against the winner of the Parma versus Rhodes semifinal. The sectional final on Oct. 19 will begin at 3 PM on Wasmer Field.

Saint Ignatius' cross country program does not have a meet scheduled this week. Coach Mike Gallagher's harriers are gearing up for the demanding OHSAA Medina District Meet, which takes place on Oct. 19th.

In what is a big weekend in football, Coach Ryan Franzinger's 5-0 junior varsity team will face a very strong St. Edward jayvee team on Saturday morning in Ohio City. The kickoff from Wasmer Field will be 10 a.m.

Four hours later, Coach Chuck Kyle will send his varsity Wildcats (4-2) against Maryland's Eastern Christian Academy (5-1) at Byers Field in Parma's Robert M. Boulton Stadium. The kickoff from Ridge Road and Day Drive is 2 p.m. The corner will provide a preview on the game tonight (Tuesday).

See you in Ohio City Saturday morning. Have a great week and weekend!
